The Mental Health Series: Clinical Mental Health Therapist - Sherri Joynes

Bio

I have studied and worked in the profession of mental health for several years now starting my journey with a degree in psychology from the University of Maryland, University College and continuing into mental health counseling at Johns Hopkins University. I have always had an understanding and awareness regarding society's disparities in social justice, but as I have matured as a professional, I've learned more about how these imbalances impact one's mental health and society as a whole.
Having worked in several mental health settings, I started to become disillusioned after feeling stifled and unable to fully work towards these goals. In 2020, I started my private practice, Diamond Hearted Industries.  Then the pandemic hit and, my husband and I decided to start a podcast (available on Apple podcasts, Google Podcasts and Spotify), as a way to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health and to challenge social dialogue thru storytelling, funny anecdotes, with a glimpse into language and social constructs. I've just recently started developing a fundraising initiative to help more clients access affordable, quality services. Whether large or small, I aim to use my platform to confront and address the concerns I see around me.
